Where Are You From And Where Did You Grow Up?

I was born and raised in Hamilton, and spent 5 years in Toronto!

 

Where Did You Go For Post-Secondary And Your Teaching Degree? What Did You Study/Specialize In?

I completed my Honours Bachelor degree from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2019 as a Philosophy Major and English Minor. I completed my Bachelors of Education degree from Western University.

 

How Long Have You Been Teaching In Total? How Long Have You Taught With OVS?

I have worked as a Secondary School teacher in different capacities for 3 years and I am just beginning my journey teaching with OVS!

 

When Did You Realize You Wanted To Become A Teacher?

I knew that I wanted to be a teacher since I was 16, when my Grade 10 history teacher helped me get on track with my education. I was always the first person to try and share the knowledge that I had with those around me no matter what the situation or job was. I love seeing the joy on someone’s face when that understanding clicks!

 

What Are Some Of Your Favourite Pastimes, Aside From Teaching?

I am an avid sports fan! I love to keep up with the latest NFL news, as well as following along with the NBA and European football. When I’m not watching sports, you can find me playing them or pulling my weight in the gym. Hey, reading and philosophy are cool too, I guess!

 

What Is The First Thing You Would Do Or Buy If You Won The Lottery?

If I won the lottery, one of the first things I would do is buy 2 houses. One would be for me, the other would be some form of affordable housing for a family or young person in need. I am a strong believer that shelter and safety should be accessible to everyone, so if I can help even one person, then that is what I want to do. The second thing would be tickets to the World Cup in Canada.

 

As An English Teacher, What Is Your Favourite Genre To Read When You Read For Fun?

When I am reading for fun, I enjoy reading different kinds of non-fiction! Most recently, I finished reading ’The Cost of These Dreams’ by Wright Thompson, and I am currently reading ‘The Pale Blue Dot’ by Carl Sagan.

What’s One Fun Fact About You That Your Students Might Not Expect?

One fun fact is that I moved myself AND my dog to England so we can do travelling and climb the mountains!

 

What Is One Piece Of Advice You Would Like To Share With Your OVS Students?

One piece of advice that I would like to share with my students is that the effort you put will come back to you, but it is just as important to look after your well-being!  It is okay to reach out for help from your teacher for more than just subject specific questions, we’re here to support you in as many facets as possible!
